Rotary
is an organization of business and professional leaders united
worldwide, who provide humanitarian services, encourage high
ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and
peace in the world. Rotarians carry on this mission by
encouraging and fostering the ideals of public service. One of
the early leaders of the Zelienople Rotary Club said "Service is
the rent we pay to live in a good community".
The Zelienople
Rotary was established in 1924; it meets at the Kaufman House every
Friday at 7:00 AM. It has provided many services and projects for the
community. Included are: sponsorship of Scout Troops and baseball
teams, building of shelters at the Community Park, and the travelogue
series held each year at the SV High School. Two on-going projects
merit particular attention: (1) the Community Events sign at the corner
of Grandview and Main which was dedicated in 1999; and (2) the Rotarians
participation in the distribution of Food For The Needy.
The involvement of the
Rotarians in the food distribution program is that they pick up
large volumes of food donated by Sysco. This food is then
distributed to organizations which prepare meals and distribute
them to the needy; such as: Meals On Wheels, Volunteers Against
Abuse, Food Pantry, Salvation Army, etc.
